What Is Dog Obedience Training?

Obedience training is about providing guidance for your dog so that he or she knows how to act in a variety of situations. It’s about teaching your dog how to interact with you and the world around him or her. Obedience training involves teaching your dog behaviors, like sitting and lying down, and pairing them with cues to establish communication between you and your dog. Obedience training produces a well-mannered dog and focuses on preventing common behavioral problems.

What Do You Teach Me and My Dog?

I customize every lesson to suit your and your dog’s needs, whether you need Spot to stay on his spot or need Daisy to drop her favorite dog toy. Therefore, I teach you and your dog only the cues that are necessary to meet those needs. I also teach you how to apply those cues in real life, so you won’t be left wondering: “Okay, my dog knows sit. Now what? What do I do with that skill?” For example, your dog will be sitting and waiting at intersections before you cross the street. Obedience training also involves teaching you how to socialize your dog properly, how to housebreak your dog, and how to get him or her to walk loosely on leash if he or she is not already a puller.

What Are the Benefits of Obedience Training?

Obedience training is an investment that saves you time, frustration, and money in the end, when you consider the lifespan of your dog. Obedience training using positive methods forges a strong bond between you and your dog; it lays the foundation for a loving, lasting relationship. Obedience training creates happier dogs and happier owners. It builds confidence in dogs and owners alike. Obedience training teaches your dog life skills, such as where to potty and how to behave on walks, so that he or she can navigate the human world and coexist successfully with you.

Please note that before any obedience training can take place, you will need to schedule a behavior and training consultation.
